Challenge

Often a project is led by one person who finds it difficult to cope with tracking all tasks

In our software, each user can manage tasks, add new bugs, comments, and requests to facilitate the work of project managers and evenly distribute the workload for all team members. To get access to all the features of KOALA DESK, they just need to have access to the Internet. This means that it does not matter how work processes occur in your company, and in what format your employees work.

Client/Target audience

The target audience of the created desktop application is the owners of small IT companies and project managers who need an easy-to-use project management solution for small groups where they can pay for each user separately (instead of paying for Premium services for all user groups).

Product vision

Product vision

That is why the created solution is an ideal choice for those owners of IT companies and project managers who do not want to pay for freelancers who use the application not only in the projects of a particular company but also outside of it. Now, this is no longer a problem - the Pay For Seats feature allows them to limit paid user options to a specific workspace. Also, thanks to our solution, now business owners do not need to pay for people who already have a premium subscription.

Our approach

Our main task was to create a flexible, scalable, and reliable solution with the ability to pay for features for each user separately. All these requirements are fully met by the following web development tools:

AWS S3

AWS S3

This is a cloud object storage with industry-leading scalability, data availability, security, and performance

Testing

Testing

We paid special attention to testing the usability of the solution so that its interface has a minimal learning curve

Django

Django

This is a Python-based framework for developing web applications with which we created the backend

React JS

React JS

This is a JS library for creating user interfaces, we used it for frontend development

Solution overview

KOALA DESK is a cost-effective solution that allows you to pay for functionality for each individual user. With KOALA DESK, the team's work becomes much more transparent, and all its members will always be aware of all task updates. The created solution fully meets the modern needs of small project teams, ensuring seamless interaction between company employees.

Therefore, to meet all the needs of all user groups, we had to create four front-end applications (two of which have two access levels)

    For workspace owners:

    • The koala admins / support can get access to the user interface in the same form as the particular user to track emerging problems;
    • The koala admins / support can create accounts for paid users;
    • The koala admins / support can add new users with read-only access rights for free (excepting the comments), to ensure end-to-end transparency of the project progress.
template workspaces

    For admins:

    • The project administrator can place the created email at eateries (for example, in the menu) in order to use the board as a feedback form for visitors and manage received requests;
    • The project administrator can choose for each of the users one of a dozen different types of roles with different access rights;
    • Project files are stored on AWS S3 with time-limited tokens for privacy.
template workspaces

    For users:

    • Users can post the created mail in their program environment so that other employees report bugs to this address (all received letters to this email turn into project tasks);
    • Users can place the created email on the site to use it as a contact form;
    • Managers and testers have the opportunity to read the received messages, which were previously automatically converted into tasks in a specially designated support board;
